Microsoft’s new free games are up for Xbox owners, being that it’s the first of the month. Available now are Earthlock: Festival of Magic and Forza Horizon.
Earthlock, which I know next to nothing about, is a turn-based role-playing game set on a planet that has ceased spinning. Gameplay footage reminds me of older Final Fantasy games, but with modern graphics, naturally. The game’s art style seems to incorporate elements of steam-punk into its brightly colored setting. It definitely looks worth checking out for fans of the genre, being free and all.
Also available to download today and backwards compatible with the Xbox One is the original Forza Horizon. For those not familiar with the arcade racer already, Forza Horizon takes the strong driving mechanics of the Forza series and sets players loose to conquer festival events in a fictitious, condensed version of Colorado. If you’re not a fan of the Forza franchise’s simulation roots, have no fear, Horizon shares far more similarities with Burnout and Project Gotham Racing given the developers at Playground Games pedigree. It’s one of the best open-world racers that I’ve played right next to Burnout: Paradise, if you want my recommendation.
Later this month, on the 16th, both Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China and the fan-favorite Mirror’s Edge will be added to the free games list. Check out the video below for more information.
